BRADBURY NEWSLETTER – 23 NOVEMBER 2018

Dear Bradbury School Community,

Wow!!  What an amazing performance the production cast and crew gave us!  It was a spectacular example of what our students can achieve, even at their young age.  Thank you everyone who supported them to achieve this high standard of excellence.  I know that there were many hours of hard work and practice behind this by many people – staff and parents alike.  A special mention to Gethyn Clothier and Jane Thompson for spearheading the production.  Great job everyone!

Our Winter Night Market is fast approaching and it looks to be the best ever!  Thank you again to our school community for joining forces to bring us this event, the proceeds of which will go directly back into benefitting our students.  Another special mention – thank you Kelly Xu, our PTA Chair for doing a great job pulling it all together.

An important note:

The Winter Night Market starts at 5:30 p.m.  Setup begins at around 3:00 p.m., so all students and children will need to be off the school grounds by then.

I look forward to seeing you at the Winter Night Market.

Sincerely,

Sandra Webster
Principal

Sick Students Coming to School
By Therese Gallen, Vice Principal & Head of Literacy

Over the past few weeks there have been quite a few students sent to school who were unwell and we have needed to send them home first thing in the morning. This has been especially noticeable in the Year 1 and 2 classes.

PLEASE do not send your child to school if they are unwell, especially if they have a fever, a ‘fresh’ cold (runny nose), a bad cough or an upset stomach. We all need to work together to limit the spread of  illnesses by keeping unwell students at home until they are fully recovered before returning to school.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Action Day Celebrations 2019
By Amanda Bremner & Carol Farrington, Action Coordinators

On Friday, April 5th, 2019 we will have our annual Bradbury Action Day. On this day students demonstrate the responsibilities associated with being Internationally Minded and work with others for a shared purpose. Students are encouraged to participate in “tangible actions which make a difference,” linked to their learning and real life issues.

On this day the Bradbury community works with the NGO, Sunshine Action, to pack food or hygiene bags for people in need.  This supports the elderly who are living alone in Hong Kong. This year we will be packing food bags consisting of soy sauce, cooking oil, canned foods and instant noodles. Over the next four months (until April) we will be talking to the students about Action through assemblies and class presentations, encouraging families to bring these food items into school.  On the day, we are aiming to pack 4000 food bags and have a variety of Action based activities happening which will be linked to year group Unit of Inquiries.

During the next week you will see posters going up around school and conversations will be had in class with the students about the Global Goals and Action opportunities.  Ms. Farrington and Ms. Bremner will also be calling for help with various tasks/actions on the day so please watch the upcoming newsletters and class emails for further updates.

Help Needed: Feeding People In Need
By Amanda Bremner & Carol Farrington, Action Coordinators

Our upcoming community action event with Sunshine Action is on Monday 26th November. This is a great opportunity for families to serve in the community together and to help people less fortunate than themselves. During this event we visit people living on the streets to deliver a hot meal and some basic food and toiletry items such as biscuits, fruit, and soap.

Please find the details below:
Where: Nam Cheong MTR Station Exit A – meet across the road outside Fu Cheong Mall

Time: 6.00pm to 7.30pm (meet 5.45pm)

Who: Year 2-6 students and families/friends (students must be accompanied by an adult)

How: MTR Tung Chung Orange line from Central MTR Station

Cost: $200 per person attending (this covers the cost of the hot food we deliver and is payable when we meet on the evening)

Bring: Recycled shopping bag

Wear: Comfortable clothing, walking shoes

At Bradbury we provide our community with various events across the year, where we can help others. ‘Feeding People in Need’ is one such event. If you are interested in taking part, please notify Ms. Fritzi in the school office 25748249 and either Ms Farrington or Ms. Bremner will contact you closer to the time with more details.
