BRADBURY NEWSLETTER – 29 MAY 2020

Greetings to the Bradbury Community

After so many emails, it is great to have our newsletter back again. Thank you for supporting an amazingly smooth return to school! Our students have done so well this past week to maintain the precautions and procedures that we have put into place to keep them as safe as possible.

As you know, each year we mix up our classes for the next year. We believe that under normal circumstances, this is best practice for a whole range of reasons. However, this has not been a normal year in any way! When we began to think about how the class mix would look for next year, we looked at different options, including keeping the class group intact and moving them up as a whole. Thinking about the need to preserve as much continuity and emotional stability as possible for our students; and given the fact that the class has not been together for a whole year yet, this is the approach that we eventually decided to go with. So next year, your child will be in the same class as this year, but of course, up a level. They will still have a new teacher. We will let you know who this is in the last week of school when your child will have the opportunity to meet with them.

As usual, if you have any feedback for me as to your child’s class placement, please let me know. A reminder that this invitation does not include requests for a specific teacher or to be with certain other children. As always, your feedback will be taken into consideration.  However, with the arrangement for the 20/21 class placements, we can only move children if there is a space in another class.

Warm wishes,

Sandra Webster
Principal

Please do not double park

This was the scene after school today:

As we are all aware, our school is situated in an area with very little easy parking spaces and reasonably heavy traffic at the start and end of the school day. This makes dropping off and picking up children by car a tricky task.

Whilst we are aware of this, we would like to request the following:  In order to keep our students safe, could all parents who pick up their children from school by car please be reminded to not double park outside school whilst waiting for your children.  This causes very dangerous situations with the heavy traffic at the end of the school day.  Our buses can occasionally find it very difficult, if not impossible, to leave the school gates due to cars being parked opposite the school gates.  Please ensure that this area is kept clear.

Please consider using the pedestrian crossing when crossing the road as the traffic coming down the hill can be moving very fast, on a corner.

And finally, please do not leave your car unattended as we may need to move vehicles quickly in case of any emergency.

Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

Library News

By Jane Thompson, Teacher Librarian and Connie Leung, Library Assistant

As you are all aware from Ms Webster’s email last week, ESF has informed all school libraries that children are not permitted to borrow books over the next few weeks of the school term. We  would be very grateful if you could return any library books that your child has borrowed back to school. A huge thank you to all those families who have already returned books. We have a returns box ready at the door of the library for students to place their books.

Please note that automated reminders for overdue books will continue to be generated the day before your child is in school. Please help your child to find and pack their books ready for the school day.

Thank you for your help.

PTA News

By Monica Brennand, PTA Chairperson &  Lin Gong, PTA Administrator

Welcome back to school, we hope all the children enjoyed their first week back!  We have a couple of important updates from the PTA committee:

School Bus

Please note that parents who withdrew their children from the bus must reapply for the bus for the remainder of term three. Your child cannot travel on the bus unless they have contacted the PTA and had their space confirmed.

Bus Refund

Cheques for all year six students, as well as those that have withdrawn from the bus are now ready. These will be sent home in your children’s diaries either today or next week.

Bus Application form

If you wish for your child to travel on the bus next school year, please complete and return the attached bus application – deadline today! An invoice will be sent home in your child’s diary either today or next week.

Yearbook

Please download the yearbook form, this should only be completed and returned if you wish to purchase an additional copy. Deadline Friday 12th June. An invoice will be sent home in your children’s diary.

Events

Unfortunately, the PTA will not be able to hold our regular cake sales or sausage sizzles this term but we will continue to brainstorm new ways of bringing our community together and raising funds for the school.

We need YOU!

We urgently need a new Treasurer for the PTA committee – if this is something you would like to learn more about, please do get in touch pta@bradbury.edu.hk

Joining the PTA is a great way to connect with parents, make your voice heard, keep informed and gives you the opportunity to make a real difference, so please get in touch if you’d like to be a part of our wonderful committee!

PTA MEMBERSHIP AND BUS APPLICATION FOR 2020/21 SCHOOL YEAR

Thank you for your understanding during the past few months as we navigate the uncertainty brought by COVID-19. Please review the following changes concerning bus service for the 2020/21 school year.

Please apply using the attached fillable application form and email the completed form directly to me at pta@bradbury.edu.hk by Friday, 29th May, 2020 to ensure that your spot is reserved, otherwise the bus company we partner with (Kwoon Chung Motors Company Limited) will not reserve buses for us when the school year starts. Any applications from current students received after this date will be subject to a $100 surcharge.

  • Unlike bus application procedures in the past, we are not accepting bus payments at this time. Instead, you will receive a separate invoice via email in June 2020 once we receive your bus application. The invoiced amount in June will reflect your bus refund (if any) from the 2019/20 school year.
  • Students who subscribed to the bus service for the 2019/20 school year will not be automatically re-enrolled for the 2020/21 school year.
  • Once you apply, you will be obligated to pay the bus fee.

Instructions:

    1. Please download the attached online fillable or PDF application form in Microsoft Word and enable edit the document.
    2. Once completed, save the fillable application form on your computer.
    3. Attach and send your completed application form to pta@bradbury.edu.hk by Friday, 29th May, 2020.

B.  If you are a non-user of the bus service

Please complete and mail the attached application form together with a cheque even if you are not applying to use the bus service. 1. Please download the attached online fillable or PDF application form in Microsoft Word and enable edit the document.
    2. Once completed, save the fillable application form on your computer and print out the form.
    3. Completed application forms, together with your cheque payment, must be submitted to the PTA shop by Friday 29th May, 2020.

Bus Policy

  • Placements will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Waiting lists will be maintained once buses are full and parents will be informed if their child(ren) is(are) on the waiting list.
  • Please consult the attached provisional list of routes and bus stops when completing your application. Please note that this list is subject to possible revision once all applications have been received. We reserve the right to make changes as necessary to accommodate as many students as possible.
  • The bus service is not a ‘door-to-door’ service. Routes and stops will be determined based on student safety, practicality and efficiency. Requests for changes to routes and stops will be considered only in special circumstances, and are subject to the approval of the PTA committee and the bus company.
  • The buses are air-conditioned and equipped with seat belts. Children are supervised throughout their journey by a dedicated bus mother.  All passengers are obliged to comply with PTA rules for good behaviour whilst travelling on the buses and seat belt use is compulsory.

Should you require any clarifications, please feel free to email us pta@bradbury.edu.hk
