ELECTION OF PARENTS TO THE ESF BOARD OF GOVERNORS

We are pleased to let you know that there are 18 candidates standing for election of Parent Members to the Board of Governors of ESF. The ballot papers and candidate statements were printed and mailed to all ESF parents together with the envelopes by end of this week. You should be able to receive them this week.

Parents should vote by filling in the ballot papers and returning them to schools or the ESF Centre before 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 12 October 2011.

The counting of votes will commence on Thursday, 13 October 2011 at 9:30 am in the Gymnasium (G/F) of Quarry Bay School (6 Hau Yuen Path Braemar Hill, Hong Kong). We do not know how long it will take and the successful candidates will be announced immediately. The whole process will be supervised by ESF’s Internal Auditor. Anyone is welcome to visit and witness the process on that day.

Should you have any questions on the above, please feel free to contact Susanna Chiu at 3762 2672.

P.E. LESSONS

Curriculum P.E. lessons

The first P.E. units of work for the year will soon be drawing to a close. The final lesson in each of the units of work usually takes the form of a year group tournament.  We welcome parents to come and watch these tournaments and see what the children have been learning. Please check out the 'dates for the diary' section at the front of the newsletter for details of when and where each of the tournaments is taking place. Photos from each of these events will be displayed on the P.E. page of The Buzz.

After school activities

The after school activities are all going well. We have even started fixtures. To date the Netball teams have played in the Pre Season tournament here at Bradbury School and in matches against F.I.S. The Year 6 and many of the Year 5 soccer players have competed in their first tournaments of the season at GSIS and the swimmers had their first gala against GSIS. Details of all these events and the photographs and reports on how each of these teams got on can be found on the P.E. page of The Buzz.

Due to the vast number of children attending each of the after school activities it is impossible for us to take all the children to each of the matches and tournaments. Selection of teams for inter school competitions is based on a number of factors including; the number of teams the organisers allow us to enter in each event. The age category of the tournament, sometimes they are organised in year bands and other times in age groups. The amount of training a child has attended. An individual’s general sporting attitude and ability. We will do our uppermost to arrange at least one match/event for each child attending an after school activity. It is explained to the children which tournaments are for which children. The children should be able to explain this to you if they are listening to the staff  that run the activities.

Charity

We have been approached again this year to help out ISF. ISF is a charity that helps some of the poorest children in Cambodia through an education and football training programme. These children need boots to be able to join in the football training. If you would like to help this worthwhile charity just send any old football kits or boots into school and we will send them onto ISF.

If you would like more information on ISF please contact Robert Gazzi on 2289 2212 or robert.gazzi@hk.pwc.com. To find out more about ISF please visit our website: www.indochinastarfish.org

YEAR 5 RULES INQUIRY

As part of our ‘rules inquiry’, Year 5 recently used Twitter to talk to students at the Creative School about their school and classroom rules. The children used itouches and laptops to “tweet” questions which they had formed with Ms. Gaukroger and were able to obtain data which they now hope to use in their Maths investigations. Mrs. Pang also assisted as we tried to integrate the Chinese and English languages.

SUMMER POEMS BY CLASS 4S

Fun in the burningHot sun in the clear blue sky

The sparkling sand at the beach
Invites me to play
The amazing blue water where I splash
Eating cookies and ice cream in the hot sun
After playing all day
Now the fun has to end
I have to go to bed
“Good night summer, see you again soon.”
By: Emma Jane Cotton

The sparkling ocean thrashing waves,
Seashells scattering all over the shore,
While the sound of the waves reach my ears.
The dew drops on the grass, sparkle like stars
Flowers blooming, colourful and beautiful.
Sunset’s beautiful over the ocean.
Now it’s time to go home.
The yard’s dark, time for bed.
I hope I’ll see those once again.
By: Brandon Wong

The cold ocean by my side floating and sinking me down.
When I look down and I see the black sea, with the big waves and the splashes.
Kayaking is fun having to push and pull.
I enjoy catching fish while gliding across the sea on it.
By: Ines Gillard

In the early morning I like to swim in the oceans sparkling water.
Nice and hot splashing everywhere.
Swimming in the ocean is very fine.
I like playing in the hot soft sand. I love devouring my melting ice cream.
I hear the cracking shells when I walk.
I hear the birds sing a rhyme on the swinging leaves.
The glowing sun gleam’s on me.
The high grass swishes through my legs.
Beads of rain slides into my shoes
When the fireflies fly we know it’s going to rain.
When it rains the sparkling cold drops trickles down on me.
I LOVE SUMMER!
