Inclement Weather Arrangements
To assist the smooth running of the school, we would be most grateful if you would note the procedures outlined below and follow them if the situations arise.
Red & Black Rainstorms:
If a red or black rainstorm warning is issued before the children leave for school the children should remain at home for the day.
If a red or black rainstorm warning should be issued during the day, school will continue as usual until 2.40 pm.
If it is unsafe to travel at 2.40 pm, we undertake to continue to look after the children until such time as parents consider it safe to travel, or the rainstorm warning is lowered, whichever is the sooner. The onus is on parents to check the school’s website and personal e-mail messages in the event of a rainstorm. We would be grateful if parents could refrain from calling the school, and instead check the school website regularly at www.bradbury.edu.hk
If the red or black rainstorm warning is in place at the end of the school day, Bradbury School must abide by ESF health and safety guidelines which state:
“under no circumstances should children be released, even to proceed home on school buses, because of the danger of landslips or floods that could seriously affect their safety. In these circumstances, Principals should only release children directly into the care of their parents or designated responsible adult.”
School Buses:
If a red or black rainstorm warning is in place at 1.15 p.m., we must cancel the school buses. In the event of this happening parents or helpers will be required to collect their children from school when it becomes safe to do so.
We appreciate the inconvenience caused but our priority must be to ensure the safety of your children.
Typhoons:
Before coming to school, listen to the radio or television for government information regarding weather conditions/school closures. If a number 8 is hoisted, students must stay at home.
If a number 8 is hoisted during school hours the class parent will call you (or send a text message) regarding time of school closure. You may come and collect your child at any time WITHOUT phoning school.
School Buses:
Buses will be sent home as soon as possible. Parents and/or helpers should be at the bus stop to pick up their children. Students who are not picked up at the bus stop will be returned to school. You must check the school website www.bradbury.edu.hk for regular updates about arrangements for school buses.
