PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

 Dear Parents,

Greetings to you all. We have two important school events that I would like to bring to your attention.

  1. The Bradbury School picnic will be held on 6 November, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Bring a picnic, a rug and listen to the live band. This is an opportunity for you to mix and mingle in an informal setting with staff and other parents.

Enclosed with this newsletter is our I.T. acceptable use policy. This is important to fill in and return in light of our continuing and growing I.T. provision at school.

PYP NEWS: YEAR 4 PROGRAM OF INQUIRY (POI)
The most significant and distinctive feature of the Primary Years Program is the six transdisciplinary themes. These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important, to all of us. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows our students to move beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.

Last year teachers at Bradbury worked in collaborative teams to develop a PYP Program of Inquiry (POI).  A school’s Program of Inquiry is made up of 36 transdisciplinary Units (6 per year group). Each unit of inquiry runs for approximately six weeks. This week we will share the Program of Inquiry for Year 4.

The development of a Program of Inquiry is a continual process and teachers are constantly evaluating and reviewing the current units, along with developing new units.

P.E. NEWS

There’s a very busy week ahead in our P.E. lessons. We have the Years 4, 5 and 6 athletics meets. These meets are the final lesson of the athletics units of work and are a culmination of the learning that has been taking place during these lessons. The meets will all take place at Causeway Bay athletic ground on Causeway Road (next to the central library which is number 66). They will run from 9 am to 12 noon. Year 6 will be on Tuesday 13th October, Year 5 on Wednesday 14th October, Year 4 on Thursday 15th October. As always we invite parents to come and support the athletes as they compete in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events.

Years 4 and 6 also have their soccer tournaments/festival. These tournaments/festivals are the final lesson of the soccer units of work and are a culmination of the learning that has been taking place during the soccer lessons. They will take place at the Happy Valley pitches. Year 4 will be on Tuesday 13th October between 10.30 am and 11.30am. Year 6 will take place on Friday 16th October between 1pm and 2pm.

Year 5 will have their netball tournament this week. As with the soccer and athletics this is the final lesson of the unit of work and is a culmination of the learning that has been taking place during the netball lessons. This tournament will take place on the netball courts here at school on Tuesday 13th October between 8.40am and 10.10am.

As always we welcome spectators to come along and cheer on the children as they show off the skills they have learnt.

Our after school activity program has also been full on. A whole host of events have taken place since the last newsletter.

Congratulations to our swimming team who after a number of cancelled meets finally got to GSIS and swam fantastically! All the teams did extremely well finishing within a point or two of the winners. Special mention goes to the boys under 10 team who finished 2 points ahead of the other teams and brought home the silverware. Well done boys!

Despite the bad weather our netball teams got off to a flying start in their season. At the pre-season tournament both the A and B teams performed brilliantly each winning a number of their games. Last week we had home games against FIS where we saw some excellent play. We look forward to following the netballers’ successes through their busy season.

Our football teams are also doing extremely well. In the first tournament of the season the under 11 boys were narrowly beaten in the final. They will be playing again at the ESF soccer tournament this Saturday at KGV. We wish them all well and look forward to hearing how they get on.

The long distance running club is living up to its name. The children are all aiming to complete a marathon! The runners are logging the distances they run with the club and looking forward to receiving their prices when they reach the 42KM mark. This event is sponsored by ING. The first race of the season is next Thursday against CIS. Good luck to all the runners.
