Bradbury Newsletter 6th November 2015

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

Greetings to you all!

It was great to see so many of you at last night parent consultation meetings. Thanks you for coming along, I personally really enjoy my chats with you!

We have has some unfortunate news in that our P.E. teacher, Miss. Jackson has, for personal reasons, been unable to return to Hong Kong after the mid term break. The PE programme has continued for our students (many thanks to our wonderful staff for stepping up and filling in to make this happen) but one area we are short in is a netball referee who is qualified to ref tournaments.

If you are able to do this, can you please let me know? – we have several tournaments:

11th November 2015

18th November 2015

25th November 2015

5th December 2015

We encourage our students to take action and be proactive. One of our students is very keen for a Scouts/Brownie pack to be set up at Bradbury School and has contacted the HK Scouts Association in this regard. Their response has been supportive, but we do need a suitable parent leader. If you are interested, please contact me. Also, if you would be interested in having your child participante in this after school activity, can you let me know so that we have an idea of numbers and know if it is a viable option for us.

Many Thanks.

Regards,

YEAR 2 EDUCATIONAL VISIT

As Year 2 start their new unit of inquiry “The decisions people make can affect habitats” we have been talking about what a habitat is:

What does it looks like?

What we find there?

Why is it important?

We travelled to Hoi Ha Marine Park situated in Sai Kung Country Park to see a local coral community habitat.

The WWF staff talked through the different types of coral and sea creatures found in this habitat and the impact humans are having on our marine life. A trip out on a glass-bottomed boat gave children the opportunity to see this wildlife for themselves.

The children all enjoyed this introduction to their new unit of inquiry. Thank you to all the parents who came along with us.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANTS TRAINING AS TEACHERS

This year we are fortunate to have a number of our Educational Assistants currently training to be teachers.

Our students and teachers benefit enormously from their growing expertise in education as they do their training and we support them in this undertaking.

One way that we are supporting them this year is by providing the opportunity to work with more than one teacher and spending time in other classes at our school.  For the next six weeks the EAs from 1N (Ms Wan), 1M(Ms Hardman) and 3D(Ms Hamilton-Dick) will swap classes to facilitate this work experience.

They are still carrying out all the normal duties of their EA role and part of that may be communicating with you through the home diaries. Students in 1N will have Ms Hardman during this time, 1M will have Ms Hamilton-Dick and 3D will have Ms Wan. At times they will be team teaching with your child’s teacher, supporting the learning that is happening in the classroom.

After this first ‘rotation’ these three EAs  will return to their original class placement.

ACTION AT BRADBURY

Community Action at Bradbury

Last Friday night the 30th of October a group of over 16 Bradbury parents, students and teachers went out feeding people who are homeless in the Nam Cheong area of Hong Kong. We packed all the groceries and  set off from the Nam Cheong Shopping centre at around 6:30pm. Partnered with Sunshine action and members of the local refugee community we were able to offer hot meals to over 100 of Hong Kong’s poorest people. All in all the night was a success and we hope to continue this valuable community service throughout the year. Our next outing is on the last Friday in November.
