PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

Our fair is only one week away! Many thanks for all of your generous donations of both time and goods. It is shaping up to be quite an event and I look forward to seeing you all there.

We have had some great learning activities happen at school this week, which catered to quite different learning experiences. Please remember to ask your child about what has been happening in the classroom. We are working towards developing individual learning targets, so ask your child if they know what their target is, or else ask them about one of the Learning Objectives from the lessons this week.

Yours sincerely,

Sandra Webster

Principal

Please remember that all children playing soccer and hockey should be wearing shin pads. A number of our children are turning up to after school sessions with out their shin pads. For their own safety the coaches will ask the children without shin pads to sit out of the session.

Next term in their specialist P.E. lessons the children will all be learning gymnastics. They will need to take off their shoes and socks for the lessons. Please can you start teaching your child to put on, fasten and take off their own shoes and socks to avoid wasting valuable teaching time.

During the winter months the children usually wear their grey tracksuit on P.E. days. Please can you ensure your child has their P.E. T-shirt under their jumper as once they start exercising they get very warm and need to take off their jumper.

Our after school activity program is still going strong. On Wednesday 18th of November the girls’ first team for netball competed in the Island Schools netball tournament at Peak School. The team played extremely well wining 1 game, drawing 2 games and loosing only 1 game. Well done ladies! The soccer team has been busy again. On Saturday 21st November they took on the rest of the Hong Kong International Schools at the DBIS annual soccer tournament. As always this team put on a great show, playing superb football throughout the rounds which led to them winning their pool. Unfortunately, they lost 1-0 to DBIS in a nail bitingly exciting semi final. The Hong Lok Yuen girls soccer tournament takes place this Saturday. Let’s hope our ladies follow in the footsteps of our boy’s teams.

As well as all the things that are happening this term, I am busy planning for next term. Please find the after school activity form for Term 2 below.

YEAR 3 ART JAM

I hope your child told you all about our fun filled art jam this week. It really was fantastic to see the Year 3 students being such confident, knowledgeable and creative artists for this project.

As mentioned previously to you, we intend to hold an art gallery walk for you to attend (should you be available). It will take place in the school reception/hall area on Tuesday 1 December.

For 3F and 3M classes this will be from 9.15 – 10.00 a.m.
and for 3T and 3C classes this will be from 11.00 – 11.45 a.m.

We hope you can attend this event to view and discuss art work with your child and other Year 3 students.

We will be playing music that the students have composed to match some of the pieces of art work during this gallery walk. Please let me know if you cannot attend this event.

Thank you for your continued support.

PYP NEWS: YEAR 1 PROGRAM OF INQUIRY (POI)

The most significant and distinctive feature of the Primary Years Program is the six transdisciplinary themes. These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important, to all of us. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows our students to move beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.

Last year teachers at Bradbury worked in collaborative teams to develop a PYP Program of Inquiry (POI).  A school’s Program of Inquiry is made up of 36 transdisciplinary Units (6 per year group). Each unit of inquiry runs for approximately six weeks. This week we will share the Program of Inquiry for Year 1.

The development of a Program of Inquiry is a continual process and teachers are constantly evaluating and reviewing the current units, along with developing new units.
